Chemistry Targeted Evaluation Tasks (TET) - Units 1 and 2*

Our Chemistry Targeted Evaluation Tasks (TET) are written by experienced VCE teachers, who are also VCE Exam Assessors. These tasks are available exclusively to schools and are available in electronic or hardcopy format. A variety of tasks are available for both Unit 1 and Unit 2.

Students are not permitted to order these tasks.

The Chemistry Targeted Evaluation Tasks (TET) are offered to schools copyright free for the restricted use of students of that school only.

TSSM's Targeted Evaluation Tasks (TET) are prepared for schools to address the key areas of the Chemistry Study Design. Schools are provided with a valuable resource for assessing the coursework component specified within the new VCAA Study Design for Chemistry. All tasks are supplied with full solutions.

Targeted Evaluation Tasks (TET) for Chemistry have been prepared for both Unit 1 and 2. The following packages are available to schools:

Unit 1 Package includes 9 tasks -

Outcome 1 or Areas of Study 1 (Four options included):

1. analysis and evaluation of generated primary and/or collated secondary data
2. a modelling or simulation activity
3. reflective annotations of one or more practical activities from a logbook
4. problem-solving, including calculations, using chemistry concepts and skills applied to real-world contexts

Outcome 2 or Areas of Study 2 (Four options included):

1. a report of an application of chemical concepts to a real-life context
2. Critique of an experimental design, chemical process or apparatus
3. a summary report of selected practical investigations 
4. analysis and evaluation of a chemical innovation, research study, case study, socio-scientific issue, or media communication.

Outcome 3 for Areas of Study 3 (One options included):

1. Research Investigation

Unit 2 Package includes 9 tasks -

Outcomes 1 for Areas of Study 1 (Four options included):

1. a media analysis/response
2. a report of an application of chemical concepts to a real-life context
3. analysis and evaluation of generated primary and/or collated secondary data
4. comparison and evaluation of chemical concepts, methodologies and methods, and findings from at least two practical activities

Outcomes 2 for Areas of Study 2 (Four options included):

1. a report of a laboratory or fieldwork activity, including the generation of primary data
2. problem-solving involving chemical concepts, skills and/or issues 
3. Infographic
4. analysis and evaluation of primary and/or secondary data, including identified assumptions or data limitations, and conclusions

Outcomes 3 for Areas of Study 3 (One options included):

1. Report of a student designed quantitative laboratory investigation using a scientific poster

These packages are provided to schools giving teachers a degree of flexibility in the assessment tasks they set for their students. While TSSM thoroughly checks the accuracy and relevance of these Targeted Evaluation Tasks (TET), prior to assessing students, it is the individual school's responsibility to ensure that these are an appropriate form of assessment.

*Unit 1 Targeted Evaluation Tasks (TET) will be released on February 7, 2024 and Unit 2 will be released on May 22, 2024. Orders made in advance are welcome.
