Raimond Gaita is a professor of moral philosophy at King’s College University of London and Professor of Philosophy at Australian Catholic University. These facts reflect the enormous influence that Gaita’s fathers teachings had on his life and passions.

His book Romulus, My Father has brought him notoriety due to the book gaining public acclaim and popularity, which culminated in it winning the 1998 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award.

Gaita has written a number of other books including: Good and Evil: An Absolute Conception; A Common Humanity: Thinking About Love And Truth And Justice. His book: The Philosopher’s Dog was short-listed for The New South Wales Premier’s Award and The Age 'Book of The Year' in 2003. His books have also gained international recognition, through them being published around the world and translated into several languages.

Romulus, the protagonist of the novel, escaped his homeland of the now non existent Yugoslavia, at the age of thirteen and came to Australia with his young wife Christine and their four year old son soon after the end of World War II.

Despite his formal education ceasing at primary school, he sustained an innate love of learning and could speak four languages fluently. He was an artisan and handyman of considerable prowess.

His greatest triumph however, is the fact that despite the enormous hardship he faced throughout his life, he lived it without bitterness and did not show reproach for those who had betrayed him.
