Born in Rome in 1966, Niccolo Ammaniti continues to live in Italy. After failing to complete a biology degree at university, he bred fish in twelve aquariums in his room and sold them. His writing career began with his first novel, Branchie, which was made into a film. He has published Fango, a stylistically diverse collection of short stories about Rome, and a novel, Ti prendo e to porto via. He wrote an animation comedy in America in 2001.
In 2001, I’m Not Scared (Io Non Ho Paura) became a bestseller. Since first being published in Italy, the novel has been translated in twenty languages and adapted for film. Niccolo Ammaniti assisted in writing the screenplay for the film, which was released in 2003.
Jonathan Hunt is an experienced literary translator and has worked as a university lecturer in Munich, Cambridge and Turin. He currently holds a research post at Turin University.
