Students will be encouraged to develop a practical grasp of all Unit 3 Areas of Study including; Reading and responding; Creating and presenting; and Using Language to Persuade.
This English program over the Easter Holidays will consist of two parts:
- Part 1 - Analysis of Language Use:
A three and a half hour session focusing on section C of the English exam. The analysis of language use is worth one-third of the total assessment for the examination. This part of the progran is also important in preparing students for Unit 3 Outcomes relating to analysis of language use.
- Part 2 - Contexts:
This four and a half hour session on each of the four contexts will focus on section B of the English exam, Writing in Context. This component is worth one-third of the total assessment for the examination. Students will select (from the following four) the context that they wish to attend for the four and a half hours.
- Encountering Conflict:
In addressing the context, this session will make detailed reference to the following four texts:
- The Rugmaker of Mazar-e-Sharif
- The Crucible
- Paradise Road
- The Quiet American
- Exploring Issues of Identity and Belonging:
In addressing the context, this session will make detailed reference to the following four texts:
- Growing up Asian in Australia
- Sometimes Gladness
- The Member of the Wedding
- Skin
- The Imaginative Landscape:
In addressing the context, this session will make detailed reference to the following four texts:
- Tirra Lirra by the River
- Peripheral Light - Selected and New Poems
- Island
- One Night the Moon
- Whose Reality?
In addressing the context, this session will make detailed reference to the following four texts:
- The Player
- The Lot: In Words
- Spies
- A Streetcar Named Desire

Total Length of Program:
9 hours. This includes three 30 minute breaks.
